Shop Time and Task Time

Shop In and Shop Out record presence. Task clocks record job-costed hours. Here is how they fit.

For Shop managers and floor leadsUpdated

Jeevy keeps two kinds of time, and they answer different questions.

A normal shift

  1. Shop In at the start of the shift, from the top bar or the kiosk.
  2. Clock In on a task from your worker home.
  3. Take lunch. Once you are shopped in, Lunch sits next to Shop Out on the top bar. While you are on lunch, your task time is paused. Tap End Lunch to resume. Clocking in, clocking out and Shop Out are unavailable until you do.
  4. Clock out of the task and say how it went.
  5. Shop Out at the end of the shift. If you are still clocked in on a task, Jeevy asks how it went before it ends your shift.

On a shared floor tablet the same shift happens on the kiosk instead of the top bar. See Kiosk and worker home.

Clocking out: how did it go?

ChoiceMeaningWhat happens to the task
DoneFinished, send to supervisor reviewMoves to Awaiting review
Coming BackStill in progress, will continueStays In progress
BlockedWaiting on parts or toolsMoves to Stalled. A note saying what is blocking you is required.

When a task moves to Awaiting review or Stalled, anyone else still clocked in on it is clocked out and told why, because the task can no longer be worked.

When you cannot clock in

Clock In is refused when:

  • The task is Stalled, Awaiting review or Completed
  • The work it depends on is not finished
  • Its work stream is blocked or on hold
  • The task belongs to a group that crews clock into as a whole

Review

People with Task Review access (owners, managers, estimators, engineers and supervisors) work the Task Review queue. Approving a task marks it Completed. Sending it back requires a reason, returns the task to In progress and notifies the worker.

Where the hours go

  • Task time rolls up from the task to its work stream and project, which is how Jeevy costs labor to a job.
  • Shop time is the whole time a person was at the shop. The gap between shop time and task time is time at the shop that was not clocked to a job.
  • The quotes and projects list can show those hours as a Floor Rhythm panel and a Labor column. Both stay out of View unless Clock Management is on.

Mistakes and missed time

  • Forgot to clock out. When a task session has been open for 8 hours, Jeevy reminds the worker and the work stream lead.
  • Missed time. Workers can submit a timesheet request for time they did not clock, and a manager reviews it.
  • Corrections. Managers can edit, reassign or delete time entries. The worker is notified when an entry is edited or deleted.
  • Clocking for others. A shop station tablet and managers can clock people in and out on their behalf.
